There is just too much beer in the world to only taste twice a month. In the spirit of more is better the Blind Tiger podcast team has decided to add samplesodes to the podcast lineup. These mini-episodes will feature only tastings of hopefully unique or exotic beer, often on location to keep your Blind Tiger intake at a more regular interval.
This week Mike, Jesse, Emily and myself headed the many, many miles to East Petersburg to visit the brand new Mad Chef Craft Brewing. Mad Chef is the creation of owners Greg Kendig and Francisco Ramirez. Mad Chef is attempting to “create a space where local community could enjoy high quality, craft-brewed beer and simple but elegant food in a relaxed environment. Locally grown products are used as often as possible and highlights [their] menu selections.” They are staking their success on Francisco’s ability to “insanely combine the culinary arts and craft brewing”.
Francisco is a CIA trained chef [That's Culinary Institute of American not Central Intelligence Agency] and while it might be disappointing that he isn't a spook (at least as far as we know) the food he is creating at Mad Chef is worth protecting like state secrets.
Without getting into too many details here in the summary our overall impression was that this is a brand new place that must be checked out. While the initial beers are aiming to be solid and on style it will only be a few short weeks before more experimental brews are coming out regularly.
